Purpose
"Skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it has been." -Wayne Gretzky
Glenwood Springs Youth Hockey provides our youth the opportunity to learn and play hockey. As a non-profit organization we also have governance and management responsibilities. Grizzly Hockey is about the players and their athletic endeavors, but is also about our responsibilities as coaches, mentors, parents, volunteers, and members of USA Hockey.
Coaches, parents, managers, and spectators should always recognize Grizzly Hockey programs go beyond the obvious mission of teaching and playing hockey. The greater mission is developing athleticism, character, sportsmanship, and self-esteem. The Grizzly Hockey program is an all-inclusive, community grassroots athletic program where every child is welcome to participate in the wonderful sport of ice hockey.
History
Glenwood Springs Youth Hockey Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The original Articles of Association were filed in February of 1997 by Peter Sharpe under the name of Roaring Fork Valley Skating Association. The IRS determination letter for 501(c)(3) tax exempt status was issued in July 1999. In October of 2003 executive directors of Jennifer Hussey's board adopted the first amendment to the Articles of Association revising the membership declaration. This amendment unofficially introduced the DBA of "Glenwood Springs Youth Hockey Association." Peter Tibbetts' board of directors passed Amendment 2 to Articles of Association in May 2008 officially dropping the old name "Roaring Fork Valley Skating Association" and our current name was registered with the Secretary of State along with the acronym, "GSYHA", but we are more affectionately known as GRIZZLY HOCKEY!
